An Old English name meaning “wealthy guard,” Edward has been used in royal family names since the 11th century. Known as Eduard in French and Eduardo in Spanish, nicknames of Edward include Eddie, Ted, Teddy and Ned.
The third son and youngest child of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex spent nearly 20 years working in theater and television. He has now taken over some of the royal duties of his father, Prince Philip, including the title of Vice Patron of the Commonwealth Games.
