Treat Acne Breakouts
How can I treat acne breakouts?
During pregnancy, you must avoid retinoids, or vitamin A derivatives, such as Retin-A or Renova, as well as salicylates, including products containing salicylic acid (also known as beta-hydroxy acid). Instead, look for products that contain lactic acid or glycolic acid, says Heidi Waldorf, M.D., director of cosmetic and laser dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. For severe acne, use an alpha-hydroxy acid wash daily and a topical product containing erythromycin, available by prescription, for spot treatments.
