"Keep your skin lubricated by applying a moisturizing oil or lotion right after you shower, while skin is still damp; doing this helps the skin retain water," Murad says.
• Take brief showers because water (especially if it's hot) dries out the skin.
• Look for moisturizing, emollient ingredients such as dimethicone and glycerin; avoid scented products and those with alcohol listed among the first few ingredients.
• An oatmeal bath can provide additional relief.
• In very stubborn cases, see your doctor for a prescription remedy.
