When then 10-year old Tharon Trujillo saw his 7-month old sister push through the screen of the family home's sliding glass door, he questioned if there was a safety gate to prevent it, or worse incidents, from happening. He and his father searched for a gate specifically for sliding glass doors; when they found that one didn't exist, Tharon set about inventing it with help from his parents. And so, the patent-pending Cardinal Gates Lock-N-Block Sliding Glass Door Gate, $60-$70, was born. The baby products industry recognized Trujillo's achievement and he was awarded one of the Juvenile Product's Manufacturer's Association Innovation Awards last year.
