Conceive again after miscarriage
I had a miscarriage almost three weeks ago. How soon can I try to conceive again?
Obstetricians recommend that a woman wait until she has had one normal menstrual period before trying to get pregnant again. This
way, she and her care provider can determine with more accuracy when the baby was conceived. “If you have a specific date, the timing of blood tests, ultrasounds and screenings throughout the pregnancy will be more precise,” explains Sandra Carson, M.D., a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. But, she adds, if you’ve had two or three miscarriages and you’re undergoing a medical evaluation, it’s better to wait until that is done. Physicians once thought there could be a higher incidence of miscarriage if a woman became pregnant within three months of losing a baby, but newer studies have disproved this notion.
