This week I was in Louisville, Ky., for the annual ABC Kids Expo for a sneak peek at the latest and greatest baby gear. My five favorite finds feature good design, are über user-friendly and each one had me asking, why didn’t I think of that?
Bitybean This super lightweight carrier (8 ounces!) can easily be stowed in your diaper bag, it’s simple construction makes it easy to use and it’s versatile: you can wear your baby—from 8 pounds to 40 pounds—on your front or back. Plus, it’s machine washable and, at just $55, you can by a second one to stash in the car. (Available in February.)
Keekaroo Peanut Changer This squishy, nonslip changing pad can used on a dresser top or changing table (no hardware required) and the anti-microbial surface wipes clean. (Bonus: No more changing pad covers means less laundry for you.) Plus, it comes in six fun colors. ($80, available Oct. 22.)
Mixie Even the most dedicated breastfeeding mama may need to supplement with formula now and then. This well-designed bottle makes it simple to send premade bottles to day care and leave no-prep-required bottles with dad or grandma: Fill the separate airtight compartment with the amount of formula you need, twist the compartment onto the bottom of the BPA-, phthalate- and PVC-free bottle, then fill the bottle with water. When you’re ready to feed, push the button on the bottom of the compartment to release the formula, shake it up and serve. Easy peasy. ($19/4-ounce bottle, available now.)
JourneyBee It’s hard to find a portable crib that fills all the criteria it should: easy for you (or the in-laws) to set up, truly travel-friendly and affordable. This crib hits the mark on all three: It weighs just about 10 pounds, it’s incredibly easy to set up (really!), and the $149 price tag won’t break the bank. (Available in November.)
Ubbi Made of steel, this modern diaper disposal keeps stinky smells where they belong—inside the pail. Plus, it uses standard-sized garbage bags, so you won’t need to make a special trip to the local baby store when you need a refill, and it comes in 10 cool colors. ($80, available now)
