If you're having trouble with recall, try to remember that you're not the only mom-to-be who experiences what some call "pregnesia." Dutch researchers found that pregnant women had poorer memory than nonpregnant women of similar ages and education levels and that memory was still compromised eight months postpartum. "Both psychological and biological factors could be responsible," says study author Renate de Groot, Ph.D., who adds that hormones may have an impact. She also suspects a link between intake of fatty acids and cognitive functioning and recommends that pregnant women and new moms eat low-mercury fatty fish at least twice a week.
