3.31.08: Looking for the right one
Thought your days of speed dating were behind you? Not so fast! If you're a parent-to-be, it might just be time to get back into the dating game—stroller dating, that is.
A Boston-based boutique named Magic Beans recently hatched an idea to do a little matchmaking between parents and strollers à la the speed-dating concept. During an in-store event, expectant parents rotate through stations of strollers, with a couple minutes to try each stroller before moving on to the next. In the space of an hour and a half, participants are able to sample about twenty different stroller models. "It's a great way to get an overview of what's out there and get an immediate gut reaction of what you like," says Shari Gurok, Magic Beans' co-founder.
Getting hands-on with your stroller is a great idea—after all, youÂre going to log a lot of miles together. And you don't want to find out too late that your strollerÂs too heavy to lift, doesn't fold easily, or doesn't fit into the trunk of your car.
If you live in the Boston area, you can try stroller speed dating at the Magic Beans store in Hingham on April 3rd. For everyone else, thereÂs an online stroller matchmaking service that will make a customized recommendation for the type of stroller that best suits your particular needs.
And if you're wishing that someone would just give you a list of the latest and greatest strollers on the market, look no further. The editors at FitPregnancy searched, tested, and chose what we think are the best options for transporting your baby with easy and style. Check out our stroller picks in our 2008 Buyer's Guide.
