If you feel like you're going to the doctor a lot as a mom-to-be, get ready: A new study finds that first-timers make an average of 16 visits to the pediatrician in the first year of a baby's life, according to a report in Britain's Daily Mail. "Panicking" was cited as the main reason for rushing to the pediatrician, with 1 in 3 taking their little one in for a common cold. In addition, the study found that "the average mother did not get a full night's sleep until 12 months after giving birth," according to the Daily Mail.

The study from the organization Benenden Health also found that 50 percent of moms felt like they reached a stage of worrying less when their child turned 3 ½. The overall findings indicate that being a new mother can be overwhelming and it's crucial to get as much support — from your family and friends to your health care providers — in the first year of your baby's life. Crib Notes previously reported on a study that found building confidence as a new mom takes an average of four months and 23 days.

"Often getting professional advice when you feel your child may be unwell can be the only way to put your mind at ease, even if it ultimately turns out only to be a cold,"  a spokesman for the organization says, as quoted in the Daily Mail article.

Remember that a good pediatrician won't mind you visiting and calling as often as you need. The message you want to hear from your pediatrician is, "If it's 2 a.m. and you're worried, call us because we are here for you."
