The Draw of Political Baby Names

With election coverage ramping up, we couldn't help but wonder what impact politics will have on baby names between now and that crucial Tuesday in November. Will the world meet a fresh crop of Hillarys and Donalds? That may depend on the political consciousness of moms-to-be (though a recent study says maybe not.)

"We all perceive names on two levels—personal and public," Jennifer Moss, founder and CEO of BabyNames.com told Fit Pregnancy. "The personal perception of a name is when you identify it with someone in your own personal history: a school bully or an ex-boyfriend, for example. Public perception of a name is when it's identified with a public figure, like Oprah or Angelina. Because politicians are public figures, their behavior, persona and brand will be what will affect the public perception of their names. And yes, that will influence baby-naming!"

Perhaps that's why the name Barack has steadily gained popularity since President Obama took office.

Of course, if you're hoping to raise a future President of the United States, her name will be very important. Moss offers this advice for picking the perfect presidential moniker: "Well, we would have said to choose something classic, until Barack Obama took office!" she jokes, adding, "We believe that the person makes the name, not the other way around. There are no 'surefire' names that will make a person successful, famous, or a great leader. It takes the person to bring the character to the name."

With that in mind, and no matter your party affiliation, here are our votes for the perfect political baby names for your little running mate.
