Books and CDs for Babies

Little Black Book (Random House) by Renée Khatami. This color-themed board book is a feast for the senses, with striking photographs, touchable textures and even scratch-and-sniff spots. Plus, the rhyming text rolls off the tongue. ($9, barnesandnoble.com)

<em>Press Here</em>

Press Here (Chronicle) by Hervé Tullet. This brilliant board book directs you to press and shake the illustrations, then turn the page to see what you've "accomplished." Babies will need help with the actions, but they will delight in the interactivity. ($15, chroniclebooks.com)

<em>Back to the Garden</em>

Back to the Garden by Ted Jacobs. In his second volume of Celtic- and-folk-tinged acoustic settings of Robert Louis Stevenson's poetry, Jacobs again brings the reflective, imaginative nature of A Child's Garden of Verses to vivid life. Sing to Your Baby by Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer. The veteran kid-music duo comes to the rescue of reserved parents everywhere with this simply savvy release: 11 easy songs to learn and, yes, sing to your baby yourself. <em>Songs From the Baobab</em>

Songs From the Baobab, compiled by Chantal Grosléziat (The Secret Mountain). This CD features 29 magical lullabies and chants from every part of the African continent, sung by mothers and children in their original languages.
