Here's What Happens When People Try Wacky Pregnancy Craving Recipes

The Pickles and Ice Cream cookbook is the answer to some of your weirdest pregnancy cravings—though this video proves that some recipes are better left unmade.

Pregnancy may usher in some seriously weird food cravings—and the quintessential pickles-and-ice-cream combination just barely scratches the surface. That's why we were so excited when we heard about a cookbook that's chock full of wacky recipes that are sure to satisfy even the craziest cravings. 

The book is fittingly titled Pickles and Ice Cream, and it includes recipes for things like banana-and-peanut-butter stuffed jalepeño peppers and spring rolls with chocolate sauce. Delicious, right?

Unfortunately, there's one tiny drawback to whipping up any of the recipes in this book: Your non-pregnant family members may not find them as appetizing as you do...at least if a video that features people trying the recipes is any indication. Let's just say the reviews were mixed...

The group of testers tasted some truly zany concoctions and provided hilarious commentary. One woman's description of a hot-dog-and-pickle smoothie? "If morning sickness was a beverage, it would be this."

TOMATO SOUP WITH M&MS

The kind of thing you might end up eating if you forgot to go shopping and have no food at home. That, or you are really stoned.

INGREDIENTS

1/4 white onion, finely chopped

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 1/2 cups / 240 g chopped fresh tomatoes

2/3 cup / 160 ml chicken stock

1 teaspoon sugar

Pinch of salt

1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

1/4 cup / 60 ml heavy cream

Optional: 1 teaspoon sherry

Pepper

5–10 different-colored M&Ms

METHOD

Fry the onions in the olive oil until translucent.

Add the tomatoes, stock, sugar, salt, and parsley.

Simmer on medium heat for 20 minutes.

Allow to cool a little and then puree the mixture until smooth.

Return to the pot and add the cream, sherry (if desired), and pepper to taste.

Serve in a bowl and sprinkle the M&Ms on top like croutons.

HOT DOGS WITH PEANUT BUTTER DIP

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons peanut butter

1–3 hot dogs

METHOD

Place peanut butter in a small dish.

Dip hot dogs into the peanut butter and eat.
