Lip Sync Battle co-host Chrissy Teigen couldn't get husband singer/songwriter John Legend's approval on their future daughter's name, so she got Obama's instead.
When Chrissy Teigen couldn't get husband John Legend to come around to a baby name she liked, she did what any headstrong expectant mother would do and went straight to the highest authority in the country.
While promoting her new cookbook, Cravings, on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert recently, Teigen revealed that her baby daughter is due in mid-April, and that Legend is getting ready for his paternity leave. Then, ever so casually, the model said that she "asked Barack" to weigh in a baby name Legend was still on the fence about.
After joking about being on a first-name basis with the president, she reverted to his more formal title. "I asked President Obama if he liked one of our name choices and he said he did, but then I realized I should have come up with two so he could pick one because, you know, you gotta be nice about it," she said.
When Colbert questioned letting the president choose her baby's name, Teigen explained that she had a bit of an ulterior motive. "I wanted to ask him because John isn't sold on the name, so I figured if [Obama] liked it, then John would be sold on it," she said. "But he says it's too 'Hollywood.'"
Teigen then whispered the name into Colbert's ear, and he agreed that he loved it. "To hell with Barack Obama, you go with that," he joked. Because after all, the only force more powerful in this country than a presidential seal of approval is the "Colbert Bump."
