Coco Austin Has a Tiny Bump—and It's OK Instagram

Coco Austin and Mr. Coco Austin (A.K.A. Ice-T), are expecting their first child. Like most expectant women, Coco has been actively updating social media with her pregnancy development pics. But these selfies have caused more "eeks" than "ahs" on the internet. The issue? Coco's barely noticeable belly—many onlookers are perturbed that her bump is so tiny at 7 months pregnant.

In a society that body shames women, pregnant women are equally criticized. In the past, people thought the way a woman carried (size, position, shape) was telling about the pregnancy and the health of the baby. Now, with modern science, we know better than to judge a book by its cover (or a baby by its mother's bump).

Alas, haters on the internet will hate, and Coco has received a backlash of messages that range from accusing her of not being pregnant, to being unhealthily thin and focusing on her looks. In August, she posted a photo of her sonogram, defending her body and sharing her joy:

"Closeup of Baby Chanel Nicole! To all the non believers about me not having a baby bump. As you can see here, there really is a baby growing inside of me. I'm 5 1/2 months already due Dec. I've workout [sic] and have stayed healthy my entire life so my ab muscles are super tight and taking longer to expand. Thanks to all the compliments comparing me to Sarah Stage (the model that had abs her entire pregnancy but had a healthy baby)."

Thanks to all the compliments comparing me to Sarah Stage (the model that had abs her entire pregnancy but had a healthy baby). Even though I would like to stay small I feel my tummy will pop sooner or later.. I may also look slimmer to you now because when I first got pregnant. I actually lost 10 pounds instead of gain. The reason, I believe, is because I stopped drinking alcohol. I would always have at least a glass of wine every night. So just recently in my 2nd trimester I finally started gaining but only 5 pounds so far. Hope this answers most of your questions

But there is a silver lining to this story. Coco's social media accounts (which have millions of followers) have become a platform for conversation where women are coming out to support her, each other, and tell their own stories. For all the negativity, her Instagram is also full of love and support from different women speaking out about their different pregnancies and the judgment they feel. Always fit and fabulous, Coco stands strong and inspires. And of course, the world can't wait to meet baby Chanel.
