Dax Shepard on Kristen Bell and Her C-Section

Having a C-Section after 33 hours of labor is no laughing matter—unless, of course, you're Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. Then it's kind of hilarious.

Hindsight, as they say, is 20-20, and if you can laugh about 33 hours of labor followed by a C-section, well, that seems like perfect vision to us. Parenthood star and funny guy Dax Shepard continued to convince us he and his wife, actress Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars and Frozen fame, are the cutest couple ever, as he recounted the recent birth of their second daughter, Delta, on the Ellen show.

It turns out, after 33 hours of labor, Bell had a C-section; she was in labor for 15 hours with Lincoln, who turns 2 in March. "That's child's play," Shepard told Ellen DeGeneres. "This was Fallujah." Shepard recounted that Bell received an epidural in the 14th hour of labor, but said dads should get something to ease the pain, too.

"I deserve something, because I was along for the ride," he told DeGeneres. "It's still a car crash, and I'm in the passenger seat. I'm playing Katy Perry, and I'm breathing, and I'm rubbing her back, and I have fatigue, and I think, 'I need something for this. Help me.'"

And, as dads who have witnessed a C-section will attest, that sheet they put up to shield the operation from the mom's view is far from a barrier—and once you peek, it can't be unseen. "So, there's a sheet, and then they go, 'The baby's here,' and then you peek around the sheet, and they're lifting out the baby," Shepard said. "But then you notice your wife is completely disassembled. I can see inside of her. I was like, 'It's a girl! Your liver's out, I think. And those are definitely intestines. And she has your eyes. Oh, my God, put her back together correctly!' After seeing this autopsy, I would rather see a school bus drive out of her vagina. There's nothing worse than seeing your partner falling open. Guys, I needed medication."

Happily, mom and baby did great and everyone is healthy, but that didn't surprise Shepard, who says Bell is a "super-healer...She's like Wolverine. If you cut her, as the knife's going through, it's sealing. If those kids came out of me, I don't know what they would look like. I'd still be in the hospital, probably."

One more tidbit Shepard shared: Where the couple got the baby name Delta.

"Our first daughter's name is Lincoln, which is very masculine," he told DeGeneres. "So, a friend of mine teasingly texted me, 'Oh, great, what's this one gonna be? Navy SEAL? Delta Force? Green Beret?' And I was reading this text out loud to Kristen. I'm like, 'This is so funny. Steve said, 'What if we named her Delta Force?' I was like, 'Delta! Delta Bell Shepard! That's it!' And that's it."
