The reporter welcomed her second child with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Christian Ponder and we love the little guy's unique baby name.
ESPN Reporter Samantha Ponder and quarterback Christian Ponder welcomed their second child, a baby boy, earlier this month and chose a unique baby name for their little one. Inspired by some of the greats—Jackie Robinson and David Robinson—the little boy was given the name Robinson True Ponder.
“He goes by True,” Ponder told People. “He was named after Jackie and David… two men of courage who weren’t/aren’t afraid to hold to their convictions and take the road less traveled. We love you forever, True. Here’s to a new great adventure.”
Both men are legends: Jackie Robinson, of course, was the first African-American play Major League Baseball and retired basketball star David Robinson is a 10-time NBA All-Star, won two Olympic gold medals, and a Hall of Famer.
The sportscaster revealed her baby name pick to the latter of her son's namesakes, David Robinson, posting the heartwarming moment on Instagram and calling it her favorite day of her pregnancy.
Neither name is in the top 1000 most popular baby names, according to Social Security data, giving little True a completely original title. He joins big sister Bowden “Scout” Sainte-Claire, who also boasts a unique moniker.
