Kim Kardashian opened up about feeding newborn Saint, whether she is comfortable with public breastfeeding and the one feeding tip she swears by.
Kim Kardashian West may have beauty, tons of money, a gorgeous home and a doting husband—but when it comes right down to it, she's not removed from the difficulties of motherhood.
The reality star opened up about one mommy struggle most women are all too familiar with: Breastfeeding. Kim posted on her app about the challenges she's faced while feeding her infant son, Saint. She also shared her views on breastfeeding in public and divulged a tip with other moms out there.
"For some reason, North hates when I feed the baby, and she lays on my lap so Saint can't be right in front of me to eat," Kim posted. "I've started to include her. Sometimes I will pump and have her feed him the bottle. That totally worked! She loved helping me, as opposed to my attention being off her, and now she is my little helper."
It's no secret that public breastfeeding is a hot topic of conversation right now, with plenty of women defending a mother's right to feed in public. Kim famously tweeted about her distaste for public breastfeeding and diaper changing back in 2010—and unsurprisingly, the tweet wasn't taken very well. Now, it seems the star's stance has softened.
"I say, whatever makes you comfortable goes. I still personally wouldn't breastfeed at a restaurant with a bunch of people I didn't know staring at me," she wrote. "I've seen this before and remember tweeting how shocked I was. Now that I'm a mom, I'm not that shocked, especially if you have a few kids and can't leave to breastfeed one kid in the bathroom while leaving the others at the table. But I still personally wouldn't do it, unless it was an emergency situation and I was fully covered."
But while Kim won't be openly breastfeeding in public anytime soon—and to be fair, she would probably have several cameras capturing the moment if she ever did—there is one group she'll comfortably feed in front of: her girlfriends.
"I would, however, breastfeed in front of my girlfriends," she posted. "I think it's such a natural experience and I'm not shy about that. I know so many people get backlash for posting breastfeeding pics, but I don't mind them!"
The star also said that breastfeeding is easy for her and shared a bit of advice for other new moms.
"I use a nipple shield most of the time when I feed. I find the baby feeds better, and it allows me to never get irritated nipples or anything because they're protected by the shield. The hospital suggested shields to me, since at the beginning I found nursing super painful and difficult, so I took some home and never looked back," she advised.
