Mother of two Kim Kardashian West is following in the footsteps of her older sister, Kourtney Kardashian, with plans to eat her own placenta. To each her own?
Anyone who watches Keeping Up With The Kardashians knows that Kourtney Kardashian is a fan of ingesting her own placenta. The eldest Kardashian sister has called her placenta pills "life-changing" and it looks like her little sister is taking that endorsement to heart. Kim Kardashian West, who just gave birth to her second child, has opened up about her own plans to eat her placenta.
The mom of Saint West posts about this decision on her web site. "So I'm not really a holistic person or someone who would ever have considered eating my own placenta. I actually thought Kourtney would have soooo done this but I don't think she did," she wrote, even though there have been several mentions of Kourtney taking placenta pills.
Before you get too squeamish about the idea, remember that Kim plans to eat her placenta in pill form—which is still a little, uh, interesting, but clearly less cringe-worthy than the thought of someone spooning placenta in its natural form. "When I say 'eat my placenta' I mean that I'm having it freeze-dried and made into pill form—not actually fry it like a steak and eat it (which some people do, BTW,)" Kim writes.
She goes on to share her reasons for doing this. "I heard so many stories when I was pregnant with North of moms who never ate their placenta with their first baby and had postpartum depression," she reveals. "But then when they took pills with their second baby, they did not suffer from depression! So I thought why not try it? What do I have to lose?"
Kim and Kourtney aren't the only celebrities who have turned to placenta pills to shake those postpartum blues—but there isn't any evidence to indicate that there's actually any benefit to it.
For her part, Kim believes the pills are doing good things for her so far. "I had great results and feel so energized and didn't have any signs of depression! I definitely had to do it again. Every time I take a pill I feel a surge of energy and feel really healthy and good. I totally recommend it for anyone considering it!" So there you have it: A glowing endorsement from a celebrity that probably isn't even sponsored by a company.
We want to hear from you: Would you ever try this?
