Reality star Kim Kardashian has been getting some flack for the way she reacted to her sister Kendall's pregnancy admission—but was she actually in the wrong?
On the first episode of Khloé Kardashian's new talk show, Kocktails With Khloé, Kendall Jenner decided to prank-call her older sister and tell her she was pregnant. Kim Kardashian replied in a completely unexpected way: Instead of offering words of reassurance or wisdom to her sister, Kim simply sighed before launching into a tirade about how exhausted she is thanks to raising her own children.
"I don't even know. I'm not the one to talk to because I had, like, the worst experience, and I'm so fresh off the worst birthing experience," Kim, who had difficult pregnancies, said. "I mean, today is not the day ... I'm on like one hour of sleep because North was up all night and I was feeding [Saint] every two seconds. Literally, my day has been so crazy, and I've had no sleep, and I want to, like, die. Today I feel like, oh my God, it's been so hard."
Critics were quick to slam Kim for her unexpected reaction to Kendall's call—because let's face it, people will find any reason to hate on the woman—but we wonder if what Kim said was so wrong. Sure, she could have been a bit more supportive of her much younger sister, but sleep deprivation is a very real thing, one that almost any new mom is very familiar with, and it can affect your actions.
Was what Kim said so awful? After all, Kendall is a grown woman. If she really did get pregnant, it would be completely conceivable that she might want to keep the baby, and Kim was just saying that if she was looking for advice on her options, Kim might not be the most unbiased person to talk to about having children. That's not to say that Kim doesn't love her kids and being a mom: It just means she was probably completely overwhelmed by the demands of motherhood at the time.
Anyone who has raised kids can probably tap into Kim's state of mind. There are times when you deal with an exhaustion so thick, you can barely think of anything other than how good it would feel to just sleep. And let's not forget that while raising two children, Kardashian West is also keeping up (pun intended) with her career as a bona fide mogul—whether or not you agree with her tactics, you don't reach her massive level of success by accident.
So we say give Kim a break. Yeah, she probably has an arsenal of nannies to help her with her kids, but we really can't judge what she is up against or what her day was like when she received Kendall's call. Despite her exhaustion, she offered to go straight to her sister's house when she heard Kendall "crying" on the phone. That doesn't sound do self-centered to us. Maybe this was really just Kim's version of a cry for help?
