Olivia Wilde got incredibly candid about tough breastfeeding can be—and she made an important point about why it's not the right choice for every mom.
For Olivia Wilde, breastfeeding is "a great experience"—but that doesn't mean the famous mom thinks it's easy or that every mother should do it.
Olivia, who recently shared a sweet shot of herself breastfeeding her daughter, Daisy, opened up about the realities of breastfeeding—and we love that she painted a picture that's far more true-to-life than the beautifully filtered images of motherhood we so often see on social media and in magazines. The actress, who has a son and a daughter with husband Jason Sudeikis, managed to sum up the challenges that come along with breastfeeding and formula feeding.
“[Breastfeeding] is not easy — it’s messy. Like 90 percent of the time you are soaked in milk. It is a difficult thing. But it is, personally for me, a great experience," Olivia told PEOPLE. “It should be a choice for everyone. I don’t like the idea of breastfeeding being forced on anyone or anyone feeling guilty."
Olivia's comments are so spot-on: There's this intense pressure moms face, and formula feeders are often on the receiving end of shame for their choices. But as Olivia points out, every mother is entitled to make the choice that works best for her family (and let's not forget that sometimes not breastfeeding isn't even a choice, but a matter of necessity). Breastfeeding is tough. If it works for you, that's great. If not, that's fine—it's your business, your body, your baby.
