Olivia Wilde (Rightfully) Skewers an Unrealistic Breast Pump Bra Ad

Olivia Wilde has some WORDS about an ad that presents breastfeeding moms in an unrealistic light.

Have you ever seen an image or ad that presents motherhood in a totally unrealistic way? Like a shot of a mom relaxing calmly in her perfectly clean home. Or a mom down to her pregnancy weight a week after giving birth.

Or maybe it's an ad for a breast pump bra that's modeled by....well, a model. And not a postpartum model either: A teeny tiny lady who has a perfectly flat tummy with not stretch mark in sight. Olivia Wilde saw an ad that fits this description perfectly, and the actress decided to speak out about it. And you know what? Everything Olivia said about the totally unrealistic image is so spot on.

"Real quick just wanna take a break from online (lazy-person) x mas shopping to call bullshit on this ad for a breast-pump bra cuz this lady definitely did not recently birth a child who requires breastmilk to be pumped," Olivia wrote alongside a screenshot of the ad. "Also want to give a quick cyber hug to this model who had to pretend to have recently birthed a milk-fed baby-child when she clearly has spent the last year lifting tiny weights and meditating."

Olivia, who just welcomed her second child with husband Jason Sudeikis, is so right about this. Why don't we ever see images of tired, overwhelmed mothers who are frazzled and still holding on to a few pounds of baby weight? Why are magazines and ad companies so quick to varnish these images so they look clean and bright....but not true-to-life in the least? We hope more women like Olivia will continue to speak out because their voices are powerful. It's about time we start painting motherhood as something that actually resembles motherhood.
