Pro surfer Bethany Hamilton, known for her passion for the waves despite having only one arm, introduces son Tobias with sweet family photo.
It's difficult not to be enamored with Bethany Hamilton.
The professional surfer, 25, gained serious media attention—not to mention a slew of new fans—back in 2003, when she lost her left arm in a shark attack during a surfing session in her home state of Hawaii. Hamilton's experience was chronicled in the 2011 hit movie Soul Surfer.
Now the author and motivational speaker is a new mom: She and husband Adam Dirks (you may have seen them compete on The Amazing Race reality show last year) welcomed their son, Tobias, June 1, and, using the hashtag #stokedmomma, Hamilton announced his arrival via social media earlier this week with the sweet family photo above.
"Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world," she wrote on Instagram and Facebook. "Born June 1st, 7.9 lbs. and 21 [inches] long. He is named after his great grandpa Tobias meaning 'The goodness of God.' Adam and I [are] so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him!"
"I often forget that I have one arm," Hamilton, who surfed throughout much of her pregnancy, said. "But when I think about a squirming baby and changing a diaper and just me and this squirming baby, it could be really challenging. But I think how I live life now, I just adjust and adapt to different things... I'll just have to find my own way to take care of the baby."
We have no doubt she'll do just fine.
