A woman from Wales became a mother four times over in just 11 months. Can you even imagine?
Like so many mothers out there, Becky John thought it would be wonderful to give her firstborn child a sibling. She loved the idea of having two children who were close in age too—but she ended up getting a bit more than she likely bargained for when she got pregnant immediately after delivering.
John welcomed her daughter, Mya, and decided to try conceiving soon after. She and her partner, Jason Evans, reportedly started trying right away and they were successful...right away.
The couple conceived their second child just one week after Mya was born...but unbeknownst to them, they had also conceived their third child. And their fourth. That's right: John got pregnant with triplets just a week after delivering her daughter—she gave birth to all four children within an 11-month span, which is almost unbelievable.
Even John struggled to believe the news: “I had to stare at the screen just to make sure for myself. And I counted the heartbeats one by one. It was true I was actually pregnant with triplets," John told the New York Post. “They were all naturally conceived and they were each from a separate egg, which is really rare. Doctors told us it was the healthiest way to have triplets, because they all had a placenta each, it meant there was no risks associated with any one of them sharing a placenta."
It's wonderful that John delivered all her children safely, but her situation is incredibly rare. For one thing, it takes a little while to heal down there after delivery, and most women are advised to avoid sex for the first six weeks or so. For another, it can take some time before your hormones return to normal after delivery, especially if you're breastfeeding, and that can significantly reduce your odds of conceiving right after you give birth.
We'll have to chalk this story up to a highly unusual set of circumstances—but can you imagine welcoming four children in under a year? It's an undertaking, to say the least!
