YouTube stars Sam and Nia announce they have another baby on the way in a controversial new video, following their recent tragic and public miscarriage.
You probably remember YouTube stars Sam and Nia from their shockingly unconventional viral pregnancy announcement in which it was the dad-to-be surprising his wife with the news she was expecting baby #3. Or maybe you'll recall the couple's raw and emotional video sharing the devastating news Nia had miscarried just a few days later. Now, Sam and Nia are back to announce another baby is on the way in a new video that is already garnering tons of attention online.
This time, Sam uses the old "bun in the oven" allusion to do his bidding. And it's the grandmas who he intends to shock with the news Nia is expecting instead of Nia herself. (Because she probably hid every pregnancy test in the state from her husband given her last experience!)
In the video, we see Nia bating her mother to open the oven, inside of which Sam has placed a plain hamburger bun. At first good old mom is confused, but when she does put two and two together she says tepidly, "Another bun?" And I had to laugh. When my husband and I announced we were having a third child, my parents reacted in very much the same way. "Another one?"
Now it's Sam's mom's turn to figure out what a bun in the oven has to do with, well, a bun in the oven. This grandmother's reaction is much more emotional, as she is literally weeping with happiness. It's truly a very sweet moment.
Then, in another sequence we see the couple's daughter being asked to follow a trail of seemingly random items that leads throughout the house. She gathers things like a baby bib, lotion, and a pacifier in a basket. At the end of the treasure hunt is Nia, hiding behind her bed holding a stuffed animal.
"We're having a baby sweetie," Sam announces. And get your tissues ready; the little girl's response will leave you in tears.
Of course, it wouldn't be the Internet without the Debbie Downers weighing in to call the video a farce, and its creators opportunists. Others are quick to bring up Sam's role in the Ashley Madison scandal. Sam said about the his involvement back in August, "This is an issue that is in our past. This was before I got onto YouTube. This was brought to my wife's attention. She has forgiven me for this mistake that I made in opening the account. I have sought forgiveness from God and he has forgiven me, so I have been completely cleansed of this sin."
Many commenters who believe Nia is actually expecting say the YouTube stars should have waited until further into the pregnancy to post the video in case she miscarries. The couple admit they estimate Nia is only eight weeks along.
When asked why they decided to share their news so early, Sam explains, "We believe life begins at conception and we believe it's to be celebrated right away. We don't believe it's something to be hidden ... We were excited right away and we wanted to share that with our fans." But Sam admits there is some anxiety given their last experience.
